The Shakyamuni Tibetan Buddhist Center is a non-sectarian Tibetan Buddhist group based in Portland, Oregon.  Our center was founded in 2003 by the Venerable Geshe Kalsang Damdul, Assistant Director of the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics in Dharamsala, India, under the auspices of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.

We are dedicated to the study and practice of Tibetan Buddhism, in the tradition of the Gelugpa School, founded by Lama Je Tsong Khapa in the 15th century. We welcome practitioners from all lineages.

What's New at STBC:

At Geshe la’s request, Kuntse Rinpoche, of  Chuwar Gadhan Dophen Ling Monastery in Katmandu, Nepal, has agreed to become the Resident Teacher at STBC.  He has committed to live and teach here in Portland six months out of every year for the next four years.  We are grateful from the bottom of our hearts to Geshela for making this arrangement with Rinpoche, and to Rinpoche for agreeing to be here.  This is a great opportunity for all of us to study, learn and practice.  Please see the schedule of classes on the left strip of this website.

Spring Courses start Monday, May 12th, continuing at the Bodhi Tree Center, 5403 SE Center Street, off of Foster Road in Portland. Rinpoche will be teaching Monday & Wednesday evenings & Sunday afternoons. Rinpoche's teaching schedule can also be viewed by going to the calendar.

We ask that everyone please pray for the Tibetan people in this difficult time, for those within Tibet and those who live in countries around the world. Our hearts go out to all those suffering due to these circumstances. For more information and the most current updates, please visit The Dalai Lama's Website or www.tchrd.org.

Our new STBC website! Please pardon our mistakes, omissions, typos and the like, as we are still under construction. Our editors are busily working away to catch them all, and add further material as it becomes available. Please stay tuned for further updates. Should you see any mistakes or if you have any suggestions, please e-mail us and let us know.

We would like to acknowledge Dr. Jim Blumenthal & Linda Marshall, who have stepped down from the STBC Board after some years of service.  Jim continues as an advisory capacity to our Board members, and Linda continues to lead the center’s Tonglen meditation group.
